It's the finishing touches on a gift that can really make it that little bit more special for the recipient. Equally, it's the finishing touches that make wrapping all the more fun for me when I'm sat at my table doing some Christmas wrapping! For that reason, I thought I'd put together a short blog post on simple ways I like to add a finishing touch to my gifts when wrapping. Nothing groundbreaking, simply a mix of things I do every year and new things I've tried for the first time this year, loved, and wanted to share with you!

Gift Boxes
Starting with a gift box - a quick and easy way to wrap a gift. I know plenty of people who don't enjoy wrapping up presents in the more traditional way and so the addition of a gift box literally solves this in the simplest way! Depending on who you're gifting and what, you can choose from an array of gift boxes available just about everywhere at this time of year. This round glitter gift box is from Flying Tiger, inexpensive and super cute! Filled with some tissue paper to cushion your gift and a decorative piece for the finishing touch.

Ribbon
Simply adding a ribbon can elevate the most basic gift wrap. I save up ribbon throughout the year from various places, whether that be previous gifts, press packages or other things I've bought. Come December, I reach for my selection of ribbon accumulated throughout the year and add it to my Christmas gifts for the most perfect, and simple, finishing touch. The possibilities are endless when it comes to working with ribbon, you can create anything from an over the top bow to a simple knot feature.
Gift idea: Dazzle 3 piece berry lip collection, Nude by Nature
Matching wrapping paper and tags
Most places offer matching gift wrap and gift tags throughout December and I'm a big fan of the combo. I usually go to Marks & Spencer for my wrapping paper as they do some of my favourite gift wrap and gift tags to match. It's not a necessity to have matching tags and accessories but I think it makes a lovely touch. Although this particular wrapping is identical to its matching tag and it can be hard to distinguish between them - but I love matching the two, and adding a ribbon of course!
Gift idea: Pretty In the USA palette, Benefit
String
Brown string has been a gift wrap classic for the longest time but admittedly, not something I often choose. So this year I finally decided to buy a pack of brown string to adorn my gifts with. It matches perfectly with so many different types of wrapping paper and gives your gifts a rustic finish which I kind of love! To top it off, you can get use out of brown string all year round too (so it's not just a Christmas thing you'll need to store away once December is over).
Gift idea: Nourishing nails kit, Mavala
Unusual accessories / gift tags
I'm a sucker for a ribbon and gift tags and more recently, all sorts of festive accessories. This reminds me so much of arts and crafts, something I'd work on whilst in school, I think if you have any children then this could be a nice way to get them involved with the wrapping by adding accessories like this to your gifts. This 2D snowflake looks like it could just as easily slot onto your Christmas tree and that's actually something the recipient could do with it next year! Making it a special little something to add to your Christmas gifts, that can be re-used in a variety of ways next year.
Gift idea: Root to top set, Hawkins & Brimble
Sweet Treats
Candy canes are a Christmas staple! Whether you're eating them, using them as festive decor or placing them on your Christmas tree - it feels as though Christmas isn't complete without a candy cane or two. Year after year I try to find new ways to make my gift wrap different and so I finally decided to try adding a candy cane to my gift wrapping (I've seen it done many times before but I've never actually tried it for myself until now!) It's a lovely addition to something small like a Secret Santa gift or to place on a gift for someone with a sweet tooth!
Gift idea: Everlasting style tin, Moroccanoil
Christmas Classics
Last but by no means least, I found some classic Christmas decorations in Wilko which I bought with the intention of using as props for my Christmas photos and gifting content #BloggerLife. When I began wrapping some gifts, I spotted one of the dried cinnamon sticks and popped it onto my gift, tied up with string and voila - another beautifully gift wrapped present! It's the simplest things that elevate a gift in my opinion and something so readily available like a cinnamon stick adds a classical Christmas touch.
